Business-related licence

You need a licence for some business activities.

Overview

The AGCO licenses business activities for horse racing. These are the business licences:

  • Claiming certificate
This lets a person who doesn’t have a horseperson licence to claim a race horse. An owner with a horseperson licence doesn’t need to apply for a claiming certificate to claim a race horse. Once a person claims a horse with a claiming certificate, they must apply for a horseperson licence and a second owner licence before racing.
  • Lease registration
This licence allows a lessee of a thoroughbred or quarter horse to register their relationship with an owner. Both the lessee and the owner need a valid owner licence.
  • Stable licence
This allows a stable or entity that owns all or part of a race horse (corporation or partnership) to race horses in Ontario.
  • Partnership registration
This lets a racing partnership of multiple owners of a thoroughbred or quarter horse race horses in Ontario.
  • Estate/trust licence
This allows an estate or trust that owns all or part of a race horse to race horses in Ontario.
